Bio
Simon Kangiser was born in Central California in 1971. He grew up in an isolated agricultural community that made it difficult for him to come in contact with art trends of the time. With the popularization of the internet, he began to broaden his artistic horizons and influences by gathering worldly influences and inspirations. This brought new resources for him to learn and be taught by world famous artists.
In 2005, Simon traveled to Pennsylvania to attend a workshop with Studio Incamminati. Here, he learned and worked with colorist theories taught by Nelson Shanks. These were applied to still life and figure studies. After returning to the central valley, he rented a space at Broadway Studios in Fresno California to paint and exhibit during the communities’ Artwalk.
Opportunities presented themselves for Simon to move to the Los Angeles area in 2007. Along with this move came many new ideas and inspirations that not only reflected themselves in his paintings, but changed their subject matter. One markedly different aspect is multiple figures in the compositions. Simon took the GYST class in Eagle Rock California in 2009 to learn marketing and self promotion of art. He currently resides in Pasadena with his cats and pink haired girlfriend.
